Pakistani mourners present at Imam Khomeini’s Shrine

A group of Pakistani men and women carried out their own mourning ceremonies on the day of Ashura at the Imam’s shrine.

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini:

“Ashura is an uprising against oppression and deviation.”

Sayyid Hassan Khomeini said: “We are now faced with a society, which more than ever is in need of learning and understanding the lesson of Ashura. We must always keep Ashura as a fountain of truth in our minds.”

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar, when Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (as), the grandson of the Prophet Mohammad (saw) and the third Imam and leader of the Shi'a. Furthermore he added that in order for these uprisings to be successful, people must be resolute and must not be fooled by the deceit or trickery used by some powerful countries to break up their unity. Without unity and persistence no uprising can achieve anything.
